W.O.R.T.H. recently held it’s first fundraising
campaign and thanks to all the wonderful cell phone donations from across the
US and Canada, it was an incredible success!!
In partnership with Phones4Charity, W.O.R.T.H.
was able to raise money necessary to support our efforts in helping women and
children in the DRC.
Thank you for all of your
support in the cell phone drive!!

Dr. Denis Mukwege is the lone
physician at Panzi Hospital, which specializes in treating survivors of sexual
violence in Bukavu.
The Women's Organization of
Rebirth Through Healing will hold fundraising events that bring awareness and
education to the forefront. Money raised from continuous fundraising
endeavors will go towards treatment and the medical equipment needed to
perform complex surgeries. These operations are needed to repair damaged
tissue that these women and young girls suffer due to the horrific sexual
violence they experience.
The condition that most of
these women and children succumb to as a result of sexual violence is called
"traumatic fistula”, which causes severe tissue damage. The surgeries
performed by Dr. Mukwege may repair the physical damage; however, the
emotional devastation may never fully heal.
W.O.R.T.H. acknowledges this
need for a more comprehensive treatment plan and is committed to providing
these women and children with a holistic model in which to work with. Only by
using a holistic approach can you begin to rehabilitate and empower women in
every aspect of their lives.
Panzi hospital is just one
organization that W.O.R.T.H. will be partnering with in the DRC and across the
globe.
W.O.R.T.H. plans to build a
transition house for women and children in the Congo that will serve as a safe
environment for survivors of sexual violence. It will be a holistic centre
where survivors can begin to heal their physical, mental and emotional wounds,
with the support of caring professionals.
W.O.R.T.H. plans to organize
educational panels in Toronto and Atlanta, as a way of increasing awareness
and educating the masses. These educational panels will include special guest
speakers and leaders in the community.
W.O.R.T.H. will be reaching
out to potential corporate sponsors and partners that can assist us in these
ambitious endeavors. We are seeking companies that share our vision for
social justice and women’s rights issues.
As W.O.R.T.H. continues to
grow, we will be taking on more projects that will assist efforts in the DRC.
We will be raising international awareness and continuing to advocate for the
many women and children who have survived sexual violence around the world.
Please check back for regular
updates.
